Prayer for money
We could all do with a bit of extra money, right? But often praying for money doesn’t feel appropriate. After all, isn’t money the root of all evil?
But then what if you have no money at all? Isn’t it okay to pray for money then? Or what if you plan to help out friends and family? Surely that’s another time when praying for money is fine?
Here is some advice to help ensure you pray the right way when you pray for money.
Things to consider in any prayer for money
- Don’t be greedy
- Don’t put money above all else
- Only ask for what you need
- Understand that your prayer may be answered in an unusual way
- Be sure to give back what you can when you can
- Pray for money as infrequently as possible
- Don’t expect money to solve all your life’s problems
Let’s look at each of these steps in turn.
1. Don’t be greedy
Sure, we’d all like to be millionaires with houses dotted across the world. But is that really something you should be praying for?
Your prayer for money shouldn’t be about winning the lottery, or becoming a superstar overnight.
Focus on what you need in there here and now, and if you have enough already don’t ask for more.
2. Don’t put money above all else
Money can make things easier, but there are other priorities that you should address first such as the health of loved one.
Of course, you might be praying for money so you can help pay for treatment for a loved one – if that’s the case, make sure your selfless motivations are explained in your prayer.
3. Only ask for what you need
If you need to make rent for the month, ask for that and nothing more. Asking for more than you need strongly suggests that your motives aren’t pure, and if your motives aren’t pure then what chance is there of having your prayer answered.
4. Understand that your prayer may be answered in an unusual way
When you pray for money, you’re probably not expecting gold coins to fall out of the sky.
The way your prayer for money is answered might not be the way you’re expecting, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for new opportunities.
For example, a prayer for money could be answered with an unexpected job offer, so make sure you’re taking up any offers that come your way. (And if you do need work, you can find a prayer for a job here.)
5. Be sure to give back what you can when you can
Generosity is part of being a good spiritual person. If your prayer for money is answered, and you go on to become comfortable in your life, don’t forget to help out those who are still waiting for their prayer to be answered.
6. Pray for money as infrequently as possible
Praying for money when you don’t need it just seems greedy, and you may find that greed overwhelms you in a spiritual sense, even if you don’t realize that’s what’s happening.
Only pray if you need is genuine, or if you’re praying for others.
7. Don’t expect money to solve all your life’s problems
Having money definitely makes things easier, but it won’t cure a broken heart, or cure your other woes.
Don’t pray for money because you think it’s a quick fix to all your other problems.
A prayer for money
Times are hard and money is short.
I ask that you help me however you can.
I don’t want to be rich, I just want to survive.
I vow that I will repay the help you give me by helping those in need when I can.
Please help guide me on to a path that will help easy my worries with money.
In particular, I ask that you help me [insert any particular money issues that are facing you here].
I know that your love and wisdom conquer all, and I promise to do my best with the help that you send me, and that I will not succumb to the temptations of greed.
